In 1926 Joseph and Clara Pilates set up the first Pilates studio in New York City. Over the course of his career, Joseph Pilates developed over 600 exercises for the various pieces of apparatus he invented. His guiding philosophy in creating the method and movements was that the body must be exercised as a “whole”.

It is important to note that Joseph Pilates regarded his method as a way of life and a path to total health, rather than just an exercise method.

Pilates is for everyone, young, old, strong or weak.

Everyone has specific needs and Pilates renders itself to meet those needs. Whether you want to get into better shape, tone, regain strength, improve your running, cycling or golf, Pilates will help you attain those goals.

It is also an excellent method to rehabilitate the body after trauma or injury. Pilates will also improve core strength, body awareness, flexibility and is a great stress reliever.



Msquared Pilates is owned by Marise Moolman a BASI qualified Pilates instructor. I completed my B.Com Marketing degree at the University of Pretoria, worked in the fashion industry and then decided on a career change. I then completed the following qualifications: BASI Mat Course, BASI Comprehensive Teacher Training Course, Pre and Post Natal Pilates Course as well as Pilates for the elderly.

It is important to me to try and meet every client’s specific needs. Bodies are complex and none are the same. It is my goal as an instructor to identify limitations but to also encourage my clients to reach a level they never thought possible. I’m passionate about working with people, whether you are a beginner or a professional athlete. I feel strongly about working with the elderly to help improve their mobility and quality of life. I’m a qualified pre and post-natal instructor and have taken many women through their pregnancies.

I’m passionate about my job and believe that it is a privilege to work with such a diverse array of people.


Msquared Pilates is a mat based studio. We offer group mat based classes with accessories such as rollers, magic circles, therabands, gym balls etc. Our group classes range from beginners to advanced.We also offer one on one Pilates sessions, duets and trios.

The Pilates Method teaches you to be in control of your body and not at its mercy.
